Editing my Reseach Paper...

Last Friday March 27th 2009,we were given back our first draft by Dr. Edwin. I was very much pleased with my work. There was not much things that i have to alter and edit on my first draft. There are only a few grammatical errors that I had committed and I believe that I can finish the editing by the end of this week. I am so thankful that Dr. Edwin accepted my analysis and suggested that I need to cite the references of the information that i get in order to avoid my work from being considered as a plagiarism. I admit that I was too afraid that I could not finish my draft on time the other day and that was why I forgot to cite the references and important sources of my information. And I hope that when I had finished citing all the references I can hand in my research paper with full of confidence. I know that this course -EDU 3044- has no final examination and that is why it is very crucial that I do not take this assignment for granted. I have ti make sure that I could at least get an A- for this assignment and an A for this paper overall. Go, go Ashadiah... You can do it..

14th March 2009 - An Interesting 'Date' with Mr, Tham Siew Inn and Sons...

We were going to Malacca… Hooray… Although it was only 28 of us that were going to Malacca on the trip but it was fun. We were so long never go any places together. And this time we were on the trip to meet an artiste at his art gallery in Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock. His name is Tham Siew Inn. We first met his eldest son because he was out for lunch with his youngest son. The welcoming of his son was very warm. Actually that was my first time stepped into an art gallery. To be honest I was not so interested with art before this. Especially drawing and painting. I just did not know how to appreciate this type of art. I knew that people might say that I am being ignorant with such a beautiful thing that comes before me, but this is just me. However, once I stepped into this gallery, I think it is not exaggerated to say that I had fallen in love with his piece of art. The sculpture, the painting, the stamp, the landscape and everything just captured my attention. I love being in such an interesting garden that he has – although at times I prayed that no frogs would appear in front of me – and also the conducive gallery that he has to display all his paintings and also his son’s collection of opal stones. I also did not miss the chance to buy some postcards for my friends and myself. I want to go to the gallery again in future. And perhaps I will go with my students at that time because I want them to know all aspects of arts that they might not yet discovered before and get to know such a talented family. And above all this nice experience, I would want to say thank you to those who had worked so hard to make this trip a reality. Thank you guys… your hard works are deeply appreciated.

This is the 12th week of the semester...

This is the twelfth week of the semester. There are only two more weeks left before we end our sixth semester in UPM. Next week our research paper is due. And I am quite worrying that I have not enough time to alter my assignment. I only hope that I could be more focus on my work. This week also we were no longer had class with Mr. Omit. Last week was the last session with him. And I am glad that actually all of us manage to present the position paper well and on time as it was scheduled on the course outline. Only that I can’t wait for this becoming Monday. We’ll be meeting Kee Thuan Chye. A famous playwright in Malaysia. Although I am not so into his work of art. But I really want to know him better. I would like to know many things about his writing and playwright. I believe that there is no other precious time that I can wait for to meet a person like him. Hopefully during the talk, he’ll answer some question that I and friends have prepared. We are so eager to see him in person and enrich our knowledge of Malaysian Literature in English.

History Boys... I like it..

Watching History Boys...
This movie was quite an interesting movie for me. I believe that everyone that is involved in the teaching field would feel the same way too. The way the story is presented shows that teachers are such an inspirational body to the students and are able to make at least a little change in the students’ life. Consider the roles of the literature teacher, Hector and the new teacher Irwin. Both of them have been really inspiring to the students. The students find it very interesting to get to role play at any time they like the literary works that they are learning. This therefore encourages them to perform better in the classroom although Hector is actually a gay. Being a gay does not mean that he is not a good teacher. And besides this makes me think that we should see something beyond its surface. Who are we to question about one’s morality when our aim is to make our students someone better and more educated in future. We have no right to judge a teacher is good or bad based on their sexual preferences. And I believe that this story could be a good story that all teacher should watch. They should see how some teachers being very determine upon their students success till their last breath.

Thursday March 5, 2009. Today we were supposed to meet Dr. Edwin to collect our research paper outline and discuss about how to start writing the paper. But once we get into his office we got to know that actually he was just to return our papers and talk personally about our ideas and issues that we want to stress on the paper. Luckily this time around he approved the issues that I am about to talk about in my research paper as well as giving me the nod to begin writing. I am so thankful that I can begin writing my research paper because I feel that I am a little bit backward than my other classmates because they had begun writing their paper. But I know, although this is already week nine but there no boundaries that can stop me from writing a good research paper. I believe I still get ample time to work on it. Therefore I think this weekend will be the right time for me to collect all materials needed for the paper as well as looking for the literature review of the topic of my research paper. Hopefully I would not become a GOTHIC character right after I have completed this research paper.

My Research Paper : The Fall of The House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe and A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner

To be honest, I was kind of frustrated when during my first meeting with my supervisor, Dr. Edwin, he advised me to look for another short stories to be compared with A Rose for Emily. However to a certain extends I am so thankful that he said so. At least it makes me realized that my research paper is going to be better and has a balanced analysis if were to compare and contrast two short stories rather than a novel and a short story. Therefore, I gave up Wuthering Heights and look for other short stories by the suggested writer by Dr. Edwin – Edgar Allan Poe – as I am to do on the gothic elements. Edgar is a great gothic fiction writer and I never knew that the story that I chose which is The Fall of the House of Usher is the most famous gothic fiction by him. And I read through the short stories, I think it is not exaggerated to say that I am in love with the story. I knew that this story shared many common elements that I can discuss about in my research paper. And it really has made my life easier. Now I have to prepare for my outline to show to Dr. Edwin and wait for his response. I just hope that I can come out with a good outline and has clear cut points that will not confuse anybody. Moreover I just want to finish my research paper’s draft as soon as possible because there are many other things that have to be taken into consideration before I submit my final paper.

I've completed my position paper....

Well... This is the 8th week of this semester, and we are supposed to start doing the presentation on our position paper as well as handed in our assignment. And i am very thankful that i have finally completed my position paper. And i think, i have to really say thank you to my colleague that has helped me out by telling me that my thesis statement was not strong enough to be the 'umbrella' of my position paper. At least i realized that there were still chances for me to alter my position paper and try my best to make correction to all the points that need to be emphasized. Very much then, i get to know that, by doing this position paper, more or less, i have become more understanding of those characters in the play : Twelfth Night. Before this, i admitted that i did read the play and do the study on it. But, it was not so serious that i have to give out my own opinion and thoughts and argumentation upon the issues that i think have never been highlighted before. And i am happy that now I'm done with the position paper and also my power point presentation. I can start counting for my turn of the presentation. Hopefully i can get full mark for the presentation.
